Meningiomen

[:nl]

Meningiomas are mostly slow growing benign tumors that arise from the tissue around the brain and spinal cord. These tumors can grow slowly for a long time without causing symptoms, so they are frequently discovered by accident.

Treatment is generally advised for tumors that are either large or growing or symptomatic. Decision making is, however, very individual and depends on location of the tumor, age and situation of the patient. Surgical removal is the treatment of first choice for meningiomas. Focal irradiation may be an alternative for some patients.
